# Get started with Motiview: connect to the TV and start a cycling session

## For Windows PC, Android tablet and iPad: connect to the TV, start a video, log the session, music and downloads

This guide shows how to get started with Motiview on a Windows PC, Android tablet or iPad. The app looks almost the same on all devices.

If you are starting with a new device, Motiview needs to be installed and logged in first. See [Getting started](https://help.motitech.co/en/knowledge/getting-started?hsLang=en) for installation and [Logging in to the Motiview app](https://help.motitech.co/en/knowledge/the-application-is-asking-for-a-license-code?hsLang=en). If you received a pre-configured device from Motiview, you can go straight to the guide below.

### Training video

The video is 5 minutes long and covers the basics. It was made on Windows, but the app works the same way on iPad and Android.

<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/1098116798?h=d362c08a71&amp;app_id=122963" width="426" height="240" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen title="Motiview FAQ - How to use Motiview" style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;"></iframe>

### Connecting to the TV

1. Connect the device to the TV or screen with an HDMI cable. A tablet needs an adapter from USB-C (or Lightning on older iPads) to HDMI.
2. Turn on the TV.
3. Choose the right input on the TV. Press the button called **Input**, **Source** or **AV**, and choose HDMI.
4. Turn on the device.

Wireless connections to the TV, such as AirPlay or screen sharing, also work, but a cable gives the best picture and the least stuttering.

### Starting Motiview

Open the Motiview app.

On Windows, you can make Motiview start by itself when the PC is turned on. This is a Windows setting, not a Motiview setting. See Microsoft's guide [Configure startup applications in Windows](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/configure-startup-applications-in-windows-115a420a-0bff-4a6f-90e0-1934c844e473). You turn it off again in the same place.

The app has three tabs at the bottom:

- **Home** – videos sorted into rows, with your favourites first.
- **Search** – find videos from a particular place.
- **More** – log activity, downloads, help and settings.

### Start a cycling session

1. Find a video on **Home** or under **Search**. See [Finding videos](https://help.motitech.co/en/knowledge/find-videos-search-favourites?hsLang=en) for tips.
2. Tap the video, and tap **Play video**.
3. The video starts:
     - **On a tablet with a TV connected**, the video is shown on the TV, and the tablet shows a small player where you can pause, skip and tap **Close video**. It can take a few seconds before the video appears on the TV.
     - **On a Windows PC**, the video is shown fullscreen.
4. Cycle! You can pause, go back 10 seconds or forward 30 seconds.
5. When you are done, close the video, or let it play to the end.

### Log the cycling session

If the video has played for more than one minute, the app asks *Well done! Do you want to log your session?* when the video is closed or finishes.

1. Tap **Log activity**.
2. Select everyone who cycled.
3. Enter how far each cyclist cycled, and complete the registration.

You can also log a cycling session at any time from **More** → **Log activity**, without watching a video. See [How can I register and track Motiview sessions?](https://help.motitech.co/en/knowledge/how-can-i-register-and-track-motiview-activity?hsLang=en) Cyclists are added in the customer portal, see [Managing cyclists in the customer portal](https://help.motitech.co/en/knowledge/register-cyclists?hsLang=en).

### Music

If you have a music licence, there is a music button on top of the app on every screen. Tap it and choose a channel under **All**. The music plays in random order, with pauses between songs. While a song is playing, the video's own sound is turned off. Stop the music with the stop button (■).

The first time, it may say *Preparing channels* while the music downloads. A channel can be chosen once it has finished downloading.

### Downloading videos

Videos that aren't downloaded are streamed from the internet. To watch a video without internet, or if the internet is slow, tap **Download** on the video. Downloaded videos are in the **Downloaded videos** row on Home, and under **More** → **Downloads**.
